Junior Kadooment Judging Criteria

Junior KadoomentThe following criteria will be applied in evaluating and scoring the points for bands and individual costumes.

 

Portrayal - 25 Points
The representation which depicts a theme in a costume band. 

Craftsmanship - 20 Points
The level of skill shown in the creation and construction of the costume used in portrayal. 

Presentation - 15 Points
The impact of stage presentation by costume bearer(s), including use of the stage, execution, technique, management of movement, interpretation of theme.

Originality - 25 Points
Inventiveness in the use of materials and portrayal of concept, that is, the use of theme should be unique and should not have been seen before. 

Visual Impact - 15 Points
The effective use and co-ordination of colour, design and presentation of bands. 

 

CATEGORIES – 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize. 

Historical
A costume band depicting as its main theme any factual or documented event or era from the beginning of time.

Topical
A costumed band depicting current events, activities and opinions.

Fantasy
A costumed band whose central theme and portrayal is based in the imaginative or dream world.

Environmental
A costume band promoting an environment theme and/or utilizing recycled or natural materials.       

Folklore
A costumed band representative of the folk traditions of the Caribbean region.

Community Costume
A costumed band produced by an established youth or community group or by a group registered with the Barbados Youth Council, Youth Affairs Department or Community Development Department. 
 

Individuals
Age Group

(7-10) (1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes)
(11-15) (1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes) 

 

Couples
Age Group

Junior King and Queen

SPECIAL PRIZES

Most Colourful Band (1st prize)
The most successful selection and use of colours in a band for maximum visual impact. 

Best School Band (1st prize )
The most successful execution of a costumed band produced by a primary or secondary school when judged on the above categories and criteria. Such bands will also be eligible to compete in, and win prizes in other categories. 

Best Band (1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes)
The Bands gaining the most points in terms of aggregate when judged in, the criteria in Rule 8 categories, as well as overall participation in the Individuals, Couples, Junior Kings and Queens’ segments of this competition. 

HIV/AIDS AWARD (1st prize)
A participating band or individual costume, which most effectively highlights the awareness of HIV/AIDS through its portrayal.

BARBADOS MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION - BRANDS OF BARBADOS
This award is offered to a band which best depicts aspects of Barbados’ culture.  

The 35th Anniversary of Crop Over Award
The band that best depicts the various aspects of Crop Over through the years: Band, Section, Individual Costume. 

Failure to adhere to the rules and regulations of the competition or to obey any reasonable instructions of the Stage Manager or any authorized NCF official may result in disqualification of such competitor, and such  competitor may not be eligible for further judging in  the competition, awarded any prizes, or prize money.
