Junior Calypso Monarch Programme and Competition

Beginning in the school vacation between terms 2 and 3, young persons interested in the Junior Calypso Monarch Competition are encouraged to attend the week-long Junior Calypso Monarch Workshop where they take part in sessions covering voice, stage craft, song writing and several areas of personal and artistic development.

The Competition, divided into two categories, 8 – 12 years and 13 – 18 years, brings out the best that the Nation’s young people have to offer in the calypso arena.
Once the semi-finalists of the competition are determined, The Junior Calypso Monarch Tents serve the dual purpose of allowing the public to see what the young people have to offer as well as to give the competitors their first public performance opportunities in an environment without the pressure of competition.
