Crop Over Opening Gala & Ceremonial Delivery of the Last Canes This unique and impressive event is the official launch of the Crop Over Festival 2012. The event will include the participation of a myriad of artists from across the island. Historic Queen’s Park will be transformed into a venue full of culture and heritage ensuring there is something for everyone with the rich cultural diversity and history of our island being expressed on three separate stages with activity throughout the afternoon.
Patrons will be able to take in the sounds, smells and sights and rich traditions during the event. Performances from music including folk, reggae, hip-hop, gospel, soca and calypso, to poetry readings, island skits and creative dances, to fire eating, limbo dance, steel pan and much, much more. Vendors will serve-up a variety of island cuisine, from cou cou and flying fish to comforts and sugar cakes. Other elements of this diverse event include the greatly anticipated Farmers Market, The Craft Marketplace, The Urban Village, Steelpan Workshops, Bajan Fashion, ensuring that throughout the event there is something happening. And if you have little ones with you, take a trip to the Mega Kids Zone.
