As far as festivals go, Crop Over is the ‘Sweetest Summer Festival’! Indeed nothing else compares. This Festival sets itself apart from the avalanche of other Caribbean Festivals with its strong historical nuance paying homage to Barbados’ rich past. And even with such a distinct Barbadian cultural root, the Festival draws all people under one cultural umbrella for the ultimate party experience.

Junior Kadooment

Through the staging of Junior Kadooment, the creative expression of Barbadian youth comes to the fore through a ‘mass’ of colour. Held on the penultimate Saturday of Crop Over, Junior Kadooment allows young people to take centre-stage.

The event commences at 9 a.m. with the parade of the Kings & Queens at the National Stadium. This is followed by the spectacular Parade of the Bands from the National Stadium to Lawrence T Gay School. The energy and splendour is breath-taking as the parade resembles a moving rainbow of colour and splendour featuring approximately 2,500 young masqueraders.

These children are the future of not only our carnival - Kadooment, but the future of our festival - Crop Over. The NCF, therefore, sees Junior Kadooment as more than an event. It is an investment in the future of our cultural development. It is safeguarding an aspect of our heritage – the art of Mas, while providing us with one of the true spectacles of the annual Crop Over calendar.
