Truly a force to be reckoned with, this Bajan soca hurricane exploded onto the local entertainment scene in 2004 with the self-penned song “Come Together” which unmistakably dominated the airwaves. Earning Mikey second place at the Party Monarch Competition, the colossal hit went on to claim the coveted Tune of the Crop Competition. Continuing in the Headliners Calypso Tent, the success of his unforgettable debut propelled Mikey’s entertainment career. A repeat appearance at the Party Monarch Finals in 2005 with “Dat Time Again”, showed the public that he was not going to be any one- hit wonder. This was also evidenced by a third place award in The People’s Monarch Competition with the same song. He also ventured into collaborations with Reddhead Records album mates with the release of the energetic “Show Me Now” featuring Katalyst and Lorenzo and the crowd favourite “Hold One” featuring Lorenzo. After only one year of performing under his belt, the electrifying performer became one of the lead singers of the soca band, Electrik. Throughout the Crop Over seasons for 2005 and 2006, Mikey’s commanding stage presence ensured that Electrik rapidly became one of the leading bands in Barbados. Mikey rallied back like thunder onto the festival scene of 2006, releasing a bombshell of a ragga soca, entitled “Belong To We” followed by up-tempo hit “Clear”, which all blazed relentlessly on the airwaves. Mikey showcased further versatility with his first social commentary, “Soca”. After his evolution from Elecktrik, Mikey wowed the public yet again in 2007 by releasing four big hits — the racehorse of a tune, “My Time”; the very popular ragga soca, “C.L.A.P” (with Lorenzo); “More”, the perfect jump-up tune, and the ultimate energy track “Bashment Bacchanal” with Khiomal of Krosfyah. This time, his two powerful collaborations led him to nominations at the 2008 Barbados Music Awards for Best Soca Single and Best Soca Collaboration. With his recruitment to the Monster Army in 2008, as General M-80, Mikey bombarded the island with the beast of a track, “Explosion”, which practically overwhelmed the competition for a second place position at the Party Monarch Finals, followed by a third place in the Tune of the Crop Competition. He struck gold with his other two songs— the so sweet “Can’t Stop De Party” and the addictive “We Luv It”, which copped a second place in The People’s Monarch. During 2009, when the world was concerned with a flu virus, Mikey caused a pandemic of his own, with everyone grooving to “I In Dat” and hundreds eager to join his “Riddum Seksun”. Once again battling it out with Edwin Yearwood, the soca general himself of Krosfyah, Mikey came second in both The People’s Monarch and Tune of the Crop Competition, with his party soca and ragga soca respectively. The popularity of these two songs was evident at the 2010 Barbados Music Awards, when Mikey received nominations for Best Soca Up Tempo Single and Best Soca Mid-Tempo Single (Male). With the stage presence of a giant, Mikey is undeniably a powerhouse of an artiste, whose talent knows no limits.
