Barbadian artiste Natalie “Natahlee” Burke broke into the soca arena in 1995 with her chant on Coalishun’s Thundah. It was Barbadian producer Nicholas Brancker who gave her that opportunity and from that very moment she has never looked back.

She was approached by top Caribbean producer, Leston Paul and she recorded Weakness for Sweetness at his Sunset Studios in Trinidad. This track put her on top of her game and took her on a musical journey throughout the Caribbean and North America. The said track was remixed with Jamaica’s Mega Banton and distributed under the EMI label, through her affiliation with Van Gibbs. It was with Weakness for Sweetness that Natahlee won Best Female Soca Artiste at the Reggaesoca Music Awards in Fort Lauderdale, 1996. She also copped Best Female Artiste, 1996 at the Caribbean Music Awards. At home, she gained the Best Female Vocalist award at the Nation Awards, 1995 and was also honoured by the National Cultural Foundation, receiving the Young Positive Barbadian Award of Recognition.

In 1998 Natahlee recorded with Paul again. This time it was Do Whe’ Yuh Want that created a wave.  She was also part of the Barbadian contingent on the Spirit of the Unity Tour, 1999.

Natahlee has become a staple in calypso tents in Barbados. She has competed in the Pic-o-de-Crop competition and has made it to the Semi-Final stage in 1999 and 2002. Her greatest success, however, has come in the Party Monarch and Sweet Soca Monarch competitions. She placed 2nd in Party Monarch in 1997 with Ah Gotta Dance. This raggasoca was written by Stedson “Red Plastic Bag”Wiltshire. Natahlee went on to qualify for most of the Party Monarch finals to date.

The year 2005 was stellar. She teamed up with Shontelle and together they wrote and performed the Party Monarch and Road March winning song, Colours. This nationalistic number also won awards from the Barbados Tourism Authority and the Barbados Manufacturers’ Association. As if this was not enough Colours won Best Soca Single (Female) at the Barbados Music Awards, 2006. Natahlee refused to stop there. In 2008, she brought Sun ‘Til Sun which placed 3rd in Party Monarch and 2nd in Road March.

For Natahlee the year 2009 is quite a memorable one. She placed 2nd in both the Party Monarch competition and the inaugural Sweet Soca Monarch competition with her raggasoca tune What We Do. In both instances she “lost” to her friend and partner in crime TC.

Natahlee has performed and recorded with more Caribbean artistes, groups and producers than can ever be listed here. Her discography is wide and varied. Through hard work, dedication and strong management she has carved her niche in the world of soca.
