Buggy Nhakente, Barbados’ Reggae Artiste of the Year 2010, has been bringing his reggae flair to Barbados’ Crop Over music scene for the past 10 years. Being primarily a Reggae Artiste, Buggy Nhakente has successfully fused his signature Reggae style with the traditional melodies of calypso/soca, a great example of which can be heard in the song “Brush Off” which contains the authentic Bajan sounds of the tuk-band. Buggy is no stranger to fusions as he is a founding member of Hit Island Studios who have pioneered many of the musical fusions that have become common place in Barbados today. Also an accomplished songwriter, having written all of his songs in his home genre of Reggae as well as all of his Crop Over offerings, Buggy has also skillfully written songs for fellow soca artistes.
