At the end of the Crop Over Festival this year, Minister of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth the Hon. Stephen Lashley announced that the planning for next year’s Crop Over would begin earlier. Influenced by calls to set an early agenda so that stakeholders could prepare themselves better for the Festival and make inputs, the Minister identified the Crop Over Stakeholders’ Consultations among the first of the items in the order of business which would begin the process of planning.
In January of this year, fourteen days of consultations began from which a number of recommendations emerged and were immediately implemented. Much of the successes of the 2011 Festival were attributed to the input of the stakeholders who the National Cultural Foundation have embraced even more warmly as partners. Representatives of the respective interest groups are invited to make verbal contributions, articulating their areas of concerns as related to procedures during the Festival events and to add what they believe may be the solutions. Various agencies also participate in the meetings to give consul on areas where Government departments , Law enforcement and Health authorities have established particular regulations which must be adhered to. The consultations are held in camera so as to afford contributors the right to privacy when discussing the issues. All meetings are held at the Queen’s Park Steel Shed beginning at 5.30 p.m.
