Barbados Crop over FestivalWhoever says ‘Bajans run from rain’ never went to Independence Square on the RBC/RBTT Pan in De City Night. In spite of the persistent showers, hundreds flocked to the ‘Pan Yard’ to enjoy Tuk and Steel Pan for more than three hours of continuous entertainment and it was sweet!

The evening began with the MC Buccaneer sailing smoothly along the Careenage and in a symbolic welcoming gesture to the Inner Basin, the Lift Bridge was raised as the members of Pan extreme played to the delight of those on shore awaiting their arrival. That was just a part of it. What followed was the intriguing procession of people from left to right as the performances of the Barbados All Stars and the Banks Sound Tech alternated between the stages. During the change overs Seaman and his Troubadours brought back memories of the Tuk band as they shared the spotlight.

As the night wore on, spirits were raised higher with each melody that floated into the Bridgetown skies. RPB revved the crowd with “It Calling Me”, it was an obvious reference to the sweet pan music, but it was Biggie Irie that brought to reality, just how quickly time flies when you’re having fun. “This Thing Can’t Be Over!” The time, it seemed had flown and the end had come for another hugely successful Pan in De City compliments RBC/RBTT.
